Studies in Classical Behavioural Economics
نویسنده
چکیده
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the core aspects of Classical Behavioural Economics (henceforth, CBE), pioneered by Herbert Simon. In this endeavor, firstly, I will attempt to contrast Classical Behavioural Economics from Modern Behavioral Economics (henceforth, MBE). Secondly, I undertake a detailed investigation of the underpinnings of the core pillars of Classical Behavioral Economics, namely: Bounded Rationality, Satisficing; in the light of Computability Theory. I hope to explore the computable underpinnings of Classical Behavioural Economics, and consequently, interpret human problem solving as decision problems, in a formal sense. I will work along the lines of Newell and Simon’s ‘Theory of Human Problem Solving’ (henceforth, HPS), in which the problem solver is encapsulated as an Information Processing System (henceforth, IPS). As in HPS, I study human problem solving in complex search spaces, however, by using the game of Go (there by going beyond Chess) and its task environment as the paradigm. In the final chapter, Simon's diverse contributions on near-decomposability and evolution will also be explored. Computability theory and Decision Problems will form the unifying themes for the entire study.

A Critical Analysis of the Origin and Nature of Classical Mathematical Economics: Why Classical Economists Did Not Use Mathematics?
The role of mathematics in economic analysis is not yet a settled question. Smith, Ricardo, Mill and other eminent classical economists did not use mathematics in their economic theorizations. We have defined classical mathematical economics as the whole body of literature in mathematical treatment of economics originating mainly from the contributions of Cournot, Jevons and Walras. There are ...
متن کاملMethodological Shortcomings in Classical Mathematical Economics: A Critical Examination of the Contributions of Cournot, Jevons and Walras
This paper examines critically the contributions of Cournot, Jevons and Walras as the founders of classical mathematical economics from a methodological standpoint. Advances in different economic schools and doctrines in the 19th century produced an environment of multi-dimensionality in economic analysis which was regarded by the pioneers of classical mathematical economists as a chaotic state...

Today, in the eyes of most inside or outside economic observers, economics apparently equals to the elements of neo-classical economics in short, methods and solutions of neo-classical economies define the principles of economics. However, in spite of such dominance and notwithstanding all evident accomplishments of neo-classical economics, it has always been subject to myriads of critique and...
متن کاملStudies in Classical Behavioural Economics: A Thesis Proposal
I propose to investigate the computable foundations of decision making along the lines of Classical Behavioural Economics. First, decision makers will be represented as Information Processing Systems underpinned by bounded rationality and satisficing as in the theory of Human Problem Solving proposed by Herbert Simon. The game of Go, which has a finite and large search space, provides a rich pa...
متن کاملBehavioural Analysis of Criminal Law: A Survey
Behavioural analysis of criminal law exploits social science methodologies (behavioural economics, psychology and even sociology) to explore the effects of criminal law norms on criminals, judges, juries and other decision-makers, to determine the optimal type and size of criminal sanctions, to identify the optimal design of the enforcement system and the rules of evidence. Behavioural analysis...
